This goes to something I have harped on for many decades. Medical training does not necessarily instill one with a scientific mindset. My impression is that the practice of medicine is largely deductive whereas scientific investigations involve equally deductive and inductive reasoning. That perhaps leaves scientists prone to be more open minded. At least it used to.

It occurred to me this post sounded critical of physicians. Not my intention. I certainly am not the first to point out that the practice of medicine is an art, not a science. I am scientifically trained and you would not want me to treat a hangnail. I might get an urge to experiment and that is something physicians should never do to patients (even when calling them customers). And that was the problem with the china flu nonsense. It was a mix of incompetent science and atrocious medicine.
