What we do for the love of horses! My horse fell off a cliff and landed on her rear end and busted it wide open. I was four hours away when my husband called and said she was gone, that he could not find her. I got in the car drove four hours and searched high and low. I live next to a wildlife refuge with over 7000 acres in my backyard. I put signs up everywhere and notified the wildlife refuge people and all my neighbors. I was praying she did not get out on the road and somebody get hurt or worse.
Over 30 hours later a man came up my driveway and told me she was on his property. I grabbed a halter and we drove to his house. The man’s family and the sheriff were all standing there when I drove up. It was 10 o’clock at night and dark and I did not see my horse and they looked in the direction where she was and she heard me and started walking towards me, I put the halter on her And examined her and kept talking to her. I could feel the group of people watching me until I finally saw her horrible injury. The sheriff told me he had already called a veterinarian but we canceled that one and called mine. She was able to walk OK so I got my horse trailer and she got right in it. She was ready to come home. By the time my vet got there it was midnight. She told me it was one of the worst injuries she had ever seen and she’s been a vet for 30 years. But she said it was miraculous that none of her muscles or tendons were hurt or torn because she walked just fine. Besides antibiotics we healed it by rinsing daily, applying a lot of honey and covering her with a sheet to keep the flies off. It took over a year for it to grow back together And I had to just cut off the necrotic tissue as it healed.. On the phone one day the Vet cracked up laughing when I called it beef jerky.

What I love about your story is that you treated the wound correctly - honey is a miracle for wounds, man or beast!
Kind of had me on the edge of my chair, there. Way to go!
That horse is blessed lucky to belong to you! Amazing story and proof of what the power of love can do.
