As to emergency room costs, my wife's broken little finger trip to the e.r. that in the day would have been taped to its neighbor to heal by the family g.p. and costing less than $100 ended up costing more than $5000. They do extort a bit. Oh, and the finger ended up no better than it would have by the tried and true.
