It’s been a long hot dry summer and fall season here in the northeast. For months we have been in a drought. It’s very hard not to notice how brown my lawn has become. Just by looking, you would think the grass is dead. As hard as the drought has been on my lawn, and things look dry and dead, I know at this point of the season, green grass has come to its end, winter is setting in. We may think the grass is dead but we have to have faith, there will be new seasons of growth coming. When the springtime and the spring rains come, I know my lawn will come back and be lush and as green as it ever was.

Isn’t that how these past 4 plus years have been. Our enemies did their best to discourage us, kill our optimism. They created droughts for us that love our freedom. By us having faith and not giving up, knowing the season of growing will come, it has flustered them. We see they are having difficult times dealing with our faith knowing our freedoms are coming back and we will once again thrive. If our enemies can’t keep us discouraged, keep us down, we have succeeded in taking away one of their greatest weapons. The more we stay in faith, stay positive, look beyond our discouragement, we see our enemy doesn’t know how to handle it.

This year in particular we have so much to be thankful for. Our season of discouragement is coming to an end. If we keep looking forward and continue these changes back towards freedom we are sure to regain our happiness. One of the biggest brightest issues I am thankful for is that people are becoming aware of the lies of the left. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, keep the faith!

I too, James, am in the northeast so am well acquainted with the drought & lack of rain. Typically, when it rains on a holiday, I am somewhat disappointed. However, yesterday when it rained all day long on Thanksgiving, I could not have been more thankful. It really is all about shifting our perspectives on a great many things. Thank-you for sharing yours.

Here in central Texas we are also having a drought that is being made worse by the water companies selling the available water out from under their customers. We have 2 sources, a lake and aquifers and the lake is half full and one aquifer losing 5 ft/yr. Meanwhile the companies collude with developers throwing up new construction everywhere you look

Thomas I’ve read about this, I believe they spray aluminum oxide among other things. They say all of the natural way leaves compost and are eaten by bugs have been killed off. I have huge oak trees around my property. This year I noticed all of the leaves were full, nothing is eating them. I’ve never in my life have seen this. Also I read the leaves do not compost because of what they spray into the atmosphere. They are destroying the entire ecosystem including making animals and people sick. The scary thing is 99.9% of people have no idea what’s going on. And the people spraying it will just keep cashing the checks. It’s frightening what the government is doing.

Absolutely keeping the Faith, & I know in my heart we will be stronger than ever & continue to move forward on a positive path for our future! My small family of 4, my Daughter, Son-in-Law & my two amazing grand daughters work together & help one another. I do worry about my grand daughter’s future, but our Faith in God has kept us on a better road to travel- & we know “we’re going to be good”. We have been tested time & again with health issues, especially my grand daughter’s. Last October (’23), covid hit all 4 of my family. This nasty virus has put them through the mill- they got through it eventually, but this past entire year(’24), a horrible cold, & coughing kept hanging on. They get sick, then recover, & then yesterday my oldest grand daughter mentioned her throat was “stinging & hurt). At 1:30 AM, my Son-in-Law had to rush his daughter to the ER because she couldn’t breathe. Turns out she has the croup- evidently whooping cough. She is better this morning & was given one Steroid pill, crushed into applesauce; so, the next step is getting a humidifier in her room & hoping adding humidity in her room helps her sleep. These girls have been up & down with this cough, & some type of virus that just won’t leave! So, we keep praying for their health to improve, & for them to get better!

I live in Seattle where it rains all the time, but what people don't know is our summers can be very dry for about 3-4 months of no rain at all and my grass always turns brown, and everyone says, hey no need to water it, it will bounce back, and it usually does. One year though I could tell it was too dry because the stalks were breaking into pieces and blowing away and all I could see was bare dirt. So, I said the grass is dead. Everyone else said, not it's fine it'll bounce back, but it didn't. It did die that year, and I had to reseed and start over. So, grass can die in a drought, but it probably depends on what kind of grass you have. Some grass varieties are much more drought tolerant than others, and I planted a new more drought tolerant variety and haven't had that problem since then. Is there a moral in this story somewhere? Perhaps, we are also the drought-tolerant variety. No amount of leftist lunacy and evil can separate us from the love of God. Hopefully, during this new spring, we can also plant seeds of hope in the hearts of those deceived by the left.

Out of all of the corruption, treason, wars and rights violations we’ve witnessed since 2019, from general Millie calling Red China and telling them he’ll let them know what Trump is doing, Millie telling the armed forces that he’s who they should communicate with not the president, the Biden’s taking billions from China and other foreign countries, the Biden’s and our government selling out America, the censorship pushed by the democrats and the fbi, even Merrick Garland falsely jailing the January 6th protestors and trying his corrupt best to interfere with the election, destroy and jail Trump, I more than anything want to see Fauci in handcuffs and shackles and put behind bars. There’s something about that smug piece of shit, forcing masks on our kids, social distancing, locking down Americans, and especially forcing experimental poison into the arms of children, pregnant women, and the general population, knowing the damage it was doing to people. All this to line his and his colleagues pockets and enrich big pharma on the backs of all of us. It takes a special sociopathic mass murderer to come up with such a scam. To consciously plan and produce a virus and an unsafe and ineffective injection that takes the health, the heartbeat, the breath, the life away from millions. We are using an iron skillet I bought nearly 60 yrs ago and woukd not trade if for anything. Do not use detergent to clean

Expand full comment

Here is an interesting fact that I recently read.

The detergent will take off the seasoning BUT it won't hurt them (the pan will just need re-seasoning).

Detergent used to have lye in it - and it would pit the cast iron. Now that isn't an issue.

Expand full comment

That was interesting. I got my care instructions from a grand old Fla. lady who and her commercial fisherman husband were my wifes godparents. That lady could fry up a mess of mullet this then unenthusiastic seafood eater scarfed lake a starved dog. Expand full comment

Soap in cast iron?... blasphemy!

Expand full comment

Depends on type of soap?

Expand full comment

If you don't mind constantly having to re-season your pan I guess you can use whatever you want although I don't know of a soap that doesn't taste bad and cast iron after all is quite porous.

The whole point of hot water only is not destroying the seasoning on your pan. Part of the reason people don't like cast iron is they think it has to be high maintenance. It doesn't have to be if you don't destroy the pan's seasoning every time you wash it. I use hot water and the Ringer I described in an earlier post and I might have to re-season my pans once a month at most and usually not that often depending on how I've been using it. High heat can also burn the seasoning off your pan.

Expand full comment

Okay old guy, I NEVER have to re-season my pans! Fry bacon in the morning. Cook whatever in it. Leave overnight. Heat in the morning . Wipe out with paper towel or scrub out with hot water and chore-boy. Add bacon for breakfast …. Repeat.

Expand full comment

Yep, If I was doing bacon every morning like you I wouldn't have to re-season my pan either. However, If you do something that needs high heat or perhaps a sauce that is acidic like anything with tomatoes for example, you will find these are hard on your seasoning.

Also, my Ringer is like a chore boy without the sharp edges. I too have some chore boys, but the only time I use them is if I want to grind off my seasoning and start over.

Expand full comment

I realized after reading through all the comments that I only used my cast iron for frying or baking. I would use my stainless for tomatoes 🍅 and other stewed stuff. And I do have a problem with walking off and burning the hell out of my pans. That DOES require re-seasoning and a time out in the kitchen corner too!

Expand full comment

What do you do to get the taste of the herbs and spices out so they don’t leech into your next meal?

You don't. If this is a problem for you then you need to learn how to properly season your pan.

Docs, been baking bread since late 70s (do not ask about those first few bricks or loaves with molten middles 🤣) - it’s always good to hear others enjoying fresh baked staff of life. While I started with commercial yeast - who didn’t 🤷‍♀️, when I began baking with my own rye starter my breads took on a different character, the next level came when I began milling my own flour and adjusting which flours I combine to change texture, taste and character. Similarly, by using a sourdough starter (rye preferably) and adjusting the percentages of the two acids involved, the hydration percentage (bagel 60% up to 80-90+% for ciabatta) and temperature one can almost believe they know what they’re doing — what I do know is that for how important bread is in my life, consuming freshly milled whole grain (the entire grain) bread is amazing. Also, side benefit: sourdough lasts forever.

Likewise, it’s been fun watching the rise of bare metal cooking take hold. I kept all of our/mine cast iron cookware, including some heirloom pieces - while I have no problems with my various "recent" vintage Lodge pans cooking on the "polished" surface of a Griswald is just a tad bit better. That said, don’t overlook carbon steel pans: seasoned like CI, CS pans are inherently smooth and marginally lighter; AND, if you’re gonna do some wok’ing (yeah, prolly not a real word - get over it 😊) a thin CS wok is the only way to go. Sadly, all my larger CI and thicker CS cook does come with the problem of weight which wasn’t an issue 10+ years ago. The remedy has been quality stainless steel of the tri- and 5- ply variety: requires more thought aforehand but I can do almost anything in SS that I do in CI/CS without worrying about ruptured ligaments. It’s also more durable than CI if treated similarly.

The progressives have been constructing an alternative culture with which they intend to replace ours. So it has been a century of rabid gnawing away at the linchpins of what holds our present culture together. The more outrageous the better. The more vigorous the reaction, the more they can invent hosts of contrived phobics to use as weapons. They seem to have built all this on a framework of wokeism feeling if they can replace the norm of morality, ethics and civility with this absurdity they will win. So wokeism should be our prime target in response. Since progressivism is built of straw bricks, knocking down that brick may well bring down the whole edifice.
