It’s been a long hot dry summer and fall season here in the northeast. For months we have been in a drought. It’s very hard not to notice how brown my lawn has become. Just by looking, you would think the grass is dead. As hard as the drought has been on my lawn, and things look dry and dead, I know at this point of the season, green grass has come to its end, winter is setting in. We may think the grass is dead but we have to have faith, there will be new seasons of growth coming. When the springtime and the spring rains come, I know my lawn will come back and be lush and as green as it ever was.
Isn’t that how these past 4 plus years have been. Our enemies did their best to discourage us, kill our optimism. They created droughts for us that love our freedom. By us having faith and not giving up, knowing the season of growing will come, it has flustered them. We see they are having difficult times dealing with our faith knowing our freedoms are coming back and we will once again thrive. If our enemies can’t keep us discouraged, keep us down, we have succeeded in taking away one of their greatest weapons. The more we stay in faith, stay positive, look beyond our discouragement, we see our enemy doesn’t know how to handle it.
This year in particular we have so much to be thankful for. Our season of discouragement is coming to an end. If we keep looking forward and continue these changes back towards freedom we are sure to regain our happiness. One of the biggest brightest issues I am thankful for is that people are becoming aware of the lies of the left. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, keep the faith!
I too, James, am in the northeast so am well acquainted with the drought & lack of rain. Typically, when it rains on a holiday, I am somewhat disappointed. However, yesterday when it rained all day long on Thanksgiving, I could not have been more thankful. It really is all about shifting our perspectives on a great many things. Thank-you for sharing yours.
Here in central Texas we are also having a drought that is being made worse by the water companies selling the available water out from under their customers. We have 2 sources, a lake and aquifers and the lake is half full and one aquifer losing 5 ft/yr. Meanwhile the companies collude with developers throwing up new construction everywhere you look
That for sure is one of the detriments or being a red state in a sea of leftys. Some how you have to make space and infrastructure to accommodate the (conservative) refugees.
Problem is a lot of these refugees are not so conservative. Abbott has been offering incentives to silicon valley comps. to come here and locate in and around austin. Resulted in moving the I35 corridor from solid red in '16 to purple in '20. Was really worried it might have gone blue
When the dark forces in the US government decide to compete with Mother Natures ability to control the weather, what would you expect to happen? They are polluting the air with reflective materiel to compete. Poisoning the ground when it falls to earth.
Thomas I’ve read about this, I believe they spray aluminum oxide among other things. They say all of the natural way leaves compost and are eaten by bugs have been killed off. I have huge oak trees around my property. This year I noticed all of the leaves were full, nothing is eating them. I’ve never in my life have seen this. Also I read the leaves do not compost because of what they spray into the atmosphere. They are destroying the entire ecosystem including making animals and people sick. The scary thing is 99.9% of people have no idea what’s going on. And the people spraying it will just keep cashing the checks. It’s frightening what the government is doing.
We need transparency!! If it is happening!! And who is doing it! The nice thing is that once you know that, the change can come quick. Just ONE season of no chem trails, ONE season of no pesticides, ONE season of no glyphosate, ONE season of raw milk and grass fed meat, and everyone’s health will bounce up like a bright red India rubber ball!!
As I have stated many times and, I will continue to say so, the RED thread extends from the crucifixion of JESUS to today's chaotic and utterly destructive/murderous situation. Nothing will ever change until WE smash, crash, crush, destroy and eliminate this evil specie.
Absolutely keeping the Faith, & I know in my heart we will be stronger than ever & continue to move forward on a positive path for our future! My small family of 4, my Daughter, Son-in-Law & my two amazing grand daughters work together & help one another. I do worry about my grand daughter’s future, but our Faith in God has kept us on a better road to travel- & we know “we’re going to be good”. We have been tested time & again with health issues, especially my grand daughter’s. Last October (’23), covid hit all 4 of my family. This nasty virus has put them through the mill- they got through it eventually, but this past entire year(’24), a horrible cold, & coughing kept hanging on. They get sick, then recover, & then yesterday my oldest grand daughter mentioned her throat was “stinging & hurt). At 1:30 AM, my Son-in-Law had to rush his daughter to the ER because she couldn’t breathe. Turns out she has the croup- evidently whooping cough. She is better this morning & was given one Steroid pill, crushed into applesauce; so, the next step is getting a humidifier in her room & hoping adding humidity in her room helps her sleep. These girls have been up & down with this cough, & some type of virus that just won’t leave! So, we keep praying for their health to improve, & for them to get better!
Thank you so much. My grand daughter has been on the mend the past two days, & is feeling better, but now has a hoarse voice this morning. She didn’t want to go to school & has been very tired! Not back to her normal self- which is extremely active all the time!
So glad to hear it. As long as she's getting better, I'm sure it won't be long now. I remember when I was a kid, sometimes I just really didn't want to go to school, but hang out in bed and read something interesting instead of skool work, but as a hyperactive child (way before they even had a name for it), I got antsy and wanted to get out.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I remember when I was in school, & the times I hated going, was in high school. I wasn’t sick, I didn’t like attending a new high school- I wanted to go to the high school where my Jr. High classmates went! So, I am also happy my grand daughter is getting back to her normal activities, & especially healthier!
Doctors don't study nutrition, so they may not have asked you about the foods your granddaughters are eating, which contribute to health problems. Food allergies can stress the Immune System and cause sore throats and coughs. My son and I were sick all the time, until I stopped using any dairy. foods.
I live in Seattle where it rains all the time, but what people don't know is our summers can be very dry for about 3-4 months of no rain at all and my grass always turns brown, and everyone says, hey no need to water it, it will bounce back, and it usually does. One year though I could tell it was too dry because the stalks were breaking into pieces and blowing away and all I could see was bare dirt. So, I said the grass is dead. Everyone else said, not it's fine it'll bounce back, but it didn't. It did die that year, and I had to reseed and start over. So, grass can die in a drought, but it probably depends on what kind of grass you have. Some grass varieties are much more drought tolerant than others, and I planted a new more drought tolerant variety and haven't had that problem since then. Is there a moral in this story somewhere? Perhaps, we are also the drought-tolerant variety. No amount of leftist lunacy and evil can separate us from the love of God. Hopefully, during this new spring, we can also plant seeds of hope in the hearts of those deceived by the left.
Our motto too: Keep the Faith! The One who created the world is All Powerful...and heard all our prayers. We had much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!
Thank you Jennifer, we all must never forget that our response to the radical left has been many years of reacting to what they did to us. We certainly didn’t ask to be put through this. They were the aggressor and it took us a long time to start winning some of these battles including the battle of the election. But we should never make the mistake of thinking it’s over, they will never stop, they will never just let us be. They want a total communist/ socialist take over and anything short of that will never be ok with them. We must always be prepared.
It *has* been a dry summer and fall up here. We got 10+ inches of the white stuff yesterday and today. On top of rain twice in the last week. Completely filled our IBC tote rain collector for the poultry coops. Drought not over, but better.
We can't relax in our win. We can't expect common sense to suddenly return to those who voted for her. We must be vigilant. We must remain alert, and as you have so eloquently pointed out, faithful, positive and hopeful. Hope your holiday was filled with many blessings.
Up in NH? That was a long ride in that storm. Glad you survived intact. Someday, we should have a "coffee" together. Would love to shake your hand and introduce you to my family.
Happy Thanksgiving to You, Family and ALL of Dr Malones many "enthusiastic followers" James. I (again) loved your Substack today and it is particularly of interest to me because I am engrossed in revealing the lies that we have ALL been fed, and I expect to make some amazing revelations in the not too distant future.
Thanks Les hope all is well with you. People are waking up Les, they aren’t trying to hide it any longer and people are finally opening their eyes, I hope it continues!
this is inspiring James, thanks for sharing, and yes we had a great "thanks day" as my grand-niece says. My Texas grass has had the same summer and autumn experience this year as yours. We had a little rain one day a week or so ago and now there are patches of green amongst the brown. Life perseveres undaunted.
Can't beat cast iron skillets. I have new Lodge skillets and old cast iron skillets from my grandmother and great grandmother. I like the old skillets better than the new ones.
Since our new range is ceramic cook top, we can't use them on it, but walk out to the deck and use the ancillary burner on our gas barbecue. Only problem is that the aroma is gone with the wind, but we suffer through it.
So sorry about your wrists, but there might be help. About a month ago, I overdid (for an almost 80 year old guy) repairing our pasture fence. X-rays revealed a couple of my carpals drifted apart and I've been wearing a very effective and inexpensive wrist brace for almost a month. I'm much better, but still have to baby it a little and snooker one of my young friends into doing it next time. Take a look: https://tinyurl.com/yufkv9dc
Thanks. Tried a full reply and it wasn’t working. I have one like this but it’s my bowling wrist support. Yes, it quite helpful along with exercises from PT
I drive past South Pittsburgh with my Amish neighbors often as they have family just over the border in Alabama. We never stop. They already own every cast iron pot ever made 😄😄 and discussions of the fine points of wood cook stoves makes stimulating conversation! Lodge has the drawback of a somewhat rough cooking surface that is hard to keep well seasoned and stick-free. But there is a fix if you can’t find the old used ones that are smooth as glass. I know it works because I’ve done it. Get out your angle grinder, put on a fine grinding stone and have at it. Once smooth, season with bacon grease. Presto bango! An heirloom!
Out of all of the corruption, treason, wars and rights violations we’ve witnessed since 2019, from general Millie calling Red China and telling them he’ll let them know what Trump is doing, Millie telling the armed forces that he’s who they should communicate with not the president, the Biden’s taking billions from China and other foreign countries, the Biden’s and our government selling out America, the censorship pushed by the democrats and the fbi, even Merrick Garland falsely jailing the January 6th protestors and trying his corrupt best to interfere with the election, destroy and jail Trump, I more than anything want to see Fauci in handcuffs and shackles and put behind bars. There’s something about that smug piece of shit, forcing masks on our kids, social distancing, locking down Americans, and especially forcing experimental poison into the arms of children, pregnant women, and the general population, knowing the damage it was doing to people. All this to line his and his colleagues pockets and enrich big pharma on the backs of all of us. It takes a special sociopathic mass murderer to come up with such a scam. To consciously plan and produce a virus and an unsafe and ineffective injection that takes the health, the heartbeat, the breath, the life away from millions. So out of all of the tyrannical BS we’ve been through my pick for inmate of the year is Tony Fauci. Hell must have a special place waiting for their brother, Fauci. J.Goodrich
I share all of your sentiments, James, & nothing will make me happier than when the curtain is finally pulled back on all of the harms & deceptions that have been heaped upon the population & when those responsible for it get precisely what they deserve, both in this life & in the next one too.
Sorry, when I read this James, I was wishing for the more personal you. I am taking a break from this rhetoric concerning the negative actions to focus on the possibilities of the Power of Love.
There is a place for justice under love. Remember LOVE is an action word. James is feeling the righteous rage that the God of Love felt and feels when His children commit so many sins. I too think that retribution will take away time and forward movement from the cleanup and clean out of all that has infected our nation BUT some form of Nuremberg style justice is necessary because the carrot 🥕 is only as good as the switch that backs it up. The unethical won’t give up what rewards them unless it stops being a reward.
It's obviously a lovely fish, but it's not worth the trouble. For anyone in the western hemisphere, actually taking possession is a problem, due to limited delivery options. The customer either has to fly there for pickup with specialized aquarium equipment, or wait for the purchased item to swim to the addressee from Australia's eastern coast. And we're already in late November.
Wonderful Substack Drs Malone, I can attest to Lodge Cookware for Great Christmas presents. Have one to my cooking loving husband 18 years ago and it is used a lot and still looks like it was purchased yesterday.
Friday Funnies! Thank you for your diligence in posting each Friday (and Sunday too, of course). Many of us count on these to enjoy with our morning coffee. Harris VS Vance for 2028? I look forward to it! Happy Days ahead!
That was interesting. I got my care instructions from a grand old Fla. lady who and her commercial fisherman husband were my wifes godparents. That lady could fry up a mess of mullet this then unenthusiastic seafood eater scarfed lake a starved dog. Her husband was rea!ly cool, used to go out crewing on gaff headed boats where they might have to get in the water and secure the catch in a battle with sharks. He took me out once gill netting for mullet...quite an experience.
We use Kosher salt and then wipe clean. Sometimes we use a Chore Boy copper scrubber (similar to Karin Jean Pierre's hair) for the more recalcitrant baked on residue and wipe with a paper towel..
If you don't mind constantly having to re-season your pan I guess you can use whatever you want although I don't know of a soap that doesn't taste bad and cast iron after all is quite porous.
The whole point of hot water only is not destroying the seasoning on your pan. Part of the reason people don't like cast iron is they think it has to be high maintenance. It doesn't have to be if you don't destroy the pan's seasoning every time you wash it. I use hot water and the Ringer I described in an earlier post and I might have to re-season my pans once a month at most and usually not that often depending on how I've been using it. High heat can also burn the seasoning off your pan.
Okay old guy, I NEVER have to re-season my pans! Fry bacon in the morning. Cook whatever in it. Leave overnight. Heat in the morning . Wipe out with paper towel or scrub out with hot water and chore-boy. Add bacon for breakfast …. Repeat.
Yep, If I was doing bacon every morning like you I wouldn't have to re-season my pan either. However, If you do something that needs high heat or perhaps a sauce that is acidic like anything with tomatoes for example, you will find these are hard on your seasoning.
Also, my Ringer is like a chore boy without the sharp edges. I too have some chore boys, but the only time I use them is if I want to grind off my seasoning and start over.
I realized after reading through all the comments that I only used my cast iron for frying or baking. I would use my stainless for tomatoes 🍅 and other stewed stuff. And I do have a problem with walking off and burning the hell out of my pans. That DOES require re-seasoning and a time out in the kitchen corner too!
If you maintain the finish (?) on the skillet they do not penetrate the surface. Has not been a problem and,we use it a lot for lots of cooking, particularly frying. Cannot beet iron for frying
Docs, been baking bread since late 70s (do not ask about those first few bricks or loaves with molten middles 🤣) - it’s always good to hear others enjoying fresh baked staff of life. While I started with commercial yeast - who didn’t 🤷♀️, when I began baking with my own rye starter my breads took on a different character, the next level came when I began milling my own flour and adjusting which flours I combine to change texture, taste and character. Similarly, by using a sourdough starter (rye preferably) and adjusting the percentages of the two acids involved, the hydration percentage (bagel 60% up to 80-90+% for ciabatta) and temperature one can almost believe they know what they’re doing — what I do know is that for how important bread is in my life, consuming freshly milled whole grain (the entire grain) bread is amazing. Also, side benefit: sourdough lasts forever.
Likewise, it’s been fun watching the rise of bare metal cooking take hold. I kept all of our/mine cast iron cookware, including some heirloom pieces - while I have no problems with my various "recent" vintage Lodge pans cooking on the "polished" surface of a Griswald is just a tad bit better. That said, don’t overlook carbon steel pans: seasoned like CI, CS pans are inherently smooth and marginally lighter; AND, if you’re gonna do some wok’ing (yeah, prolly not a real word - get over it 😊) a thin CS wok is the only way to go. Sadly, all my larger CI and thicker CS cook does come with the problem of weight which wasn’t an issue 10+ years ago. The remedy has been quality stainless steel of the tri- and 5- ply variety: requires more thought aforehand but I can do almost anything in SS that I do in CI/CS without worrying about ruptured ligaments. It’s also more durable than CI if treated similarly.
In 1980, while at college, I bought a set of stainless steel pots and pans that were interchangeable and stackable. The gauge is thick—cannot find anything close to it nowadays—and I’m still using it! Made in USA. We also use Lodge cast iron skillets. 🙂
Enjoy life and while you count down the days to January 20th, know that Trump is already making changes in our hemisphere. The President of Mexico, who unknowingly admitted Mexico facilitated the invasion of our nation, is now stopping illegals from traveling to our border—thanks to President Trump’s phone call! America First Leadership matters!
Don’t forget to take time from the fray of politics to enjoy family, friends, and the birth of the Savior of the world—the Lord Jesus Christ. 🤗
I do not think the establishment, which seems to be the neocons and socialists at this point, are going to let it happen. Unless Trump agreed to a massive amount of non-prosecutions.
The only choice they should have is either “follow or get out of the way” because they are not the leaders, and we have a mandate to fulfill and our nation to save.
Happy Thanksgiving all! We are truly blessed that the Democrats tried to keep DJT off ballots, raided his home, kept him in court, called him and us names otherwise many Americans may not have awakened and realized the Dems replaced one mental invalid with another one on the ballot. Everything they did backfired. For that I’m thankful and look forward to many needed changes in our government.
This year, we are trying to make memories, rather than just buy things "made in China". We are giving our adult children and their spouses "experiences" rather than things - trying to find things they would enjoy but that might not be in their budget - a pair of lift tickets for a day on the slopes, a date night cooking class at a local kitchen shop. I have also been picking up small, personalized gifts at local craft fairs or order them off of Etsy as a way to support small businesses.
Just a few suggestions from our house to yours...praying for a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with peace, hope, and love for all of us, and also for our country!

James..substack did not let me post this response to your comment
The progressives have been constructing an alternative culture with which they intend to replace ours. So it has been a century of rabid gnawing away at the linchpins of what holds our present culture together. The more outrageous the better. The more vigorous the reaction, the more they can invent hosts of contrived phobics to use as weapons. They seem to have built all this on a framework of wokeism feeling if they can replace the norm of morality, ethics and civility with this absurdity they will win. So wokeism should be our prime target in response. Since progressivism is built of straw bricks, knocking down that brick may well bring down the whole edifice.
Yup wood stove cooking is an art form. Helpful hints: have lots of trivets, do all the prep work ahead of time, have a table near by. I cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner on our wood cook stove. It snowed all day. Happy a thanksgiving to All.

A little more CO2 wouldn't hurt either.
More CO2 = bumper crops and a green planet.
Less CO2 = a recipe for global starvation.

Problem! Three Erythromycin tablets fix the problem! They keep creating fear scenarios to stay in charge!
Prayers for her full recovery.
Thank you so much. Our prayers have been answered, & Taleia is recovering, sleeping good the last two nights, & did relax all day Saturday!

this is inspiring James, thanks for sharing, and yes we had a great "thanks day" as my grand-niece says.
My Dad made popcorn every Sunday night in a cast iron pan, our poporn pan. We'd each get a little bowl and watch Bonanza, LOL.
Since our new range is ceramic cook top, we can't use them on it, but walk out to the deck and use the ancillary burner on our gas barbecue. Only problem is that the aroma is gone with the wind, but we suffer through it.
I love Lodge cookware! I had to give all mine away as I now have weak wrists and can’t lift them.

This toy we used in therapy for my wrists. I have the Jr Model
I think we all need a break! My first post is positive at least I think it is?
There is a place for justice under love. Remember LOVE is an action word. James is feeling the righteous rage that the God of Love felt and feels when His children commit so many sins. I too think that retribution will take away time and forward movement from the cleanup and clean out of all that has infected our nation BUT some form of Nuremberg style justice is necessary because the carrot 🥕 is only as good as the switch that backs it up. The unethical won’t give up what rewards them unless it stops being a reward.
Tell us how you really feel, James. Truth be known I feel exactly the same way!
I guess that I'll have to scratch off Australian lung fish off my Christmas 🎄 🙃 list!
I can also attest to Lodge cast iron skillets, cooking and baking pans, scones cookware, and kettle pots.
I love my Lodge pan as well! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Friday Funnies! Thank you for your diligence in posting each Friday (and Sunday too, of course). Many of us count on these to enjoy with our morning coffee. Harris VS Vance for 2028? I look forward to it! Happy Days ahead!
We are using an iron skillet I bought nearly 60 yrs ago and woukd not trade if for anything. Do not use detergent to clean
Here is an interesting fact that I recently read.
The detergent will take off the seasoning BUT it won't hurt them (the pan will just need re-seasoning).
Detergent used to have lye in it - and it would pit the cast iron. Now that isn't an issue.
Yabut, soap tastes bad....
Right - just wipe it clean with a paper towel or a clean cloth and put it back on top of the stove.
We use Kosher salt and then wipe clean. Sometimes we use a Chore Boy copper scrubber (similar to Karin Jean Pierre's hair) for the more recalcitrant baked on residue and wipe with a paper towel..
Soap in cast iron?... blasphemy!
Depends on type of soap?
What do you do to get the taste of the herbs and spices out so they don’t leech into your next meal?
You don't. If this is a problem for you then you need to learn how to properly season your pan.
Yeah, that’s the cook’s job. I clean up. I just don’t like the taste of last night’s rosemary and garlic… etc.
Ha ha ha... Beg to differ. You can't season your pan until after you've cleaned it.
I wipe it out, then rinse and wipe it out again.
If you maintain the finish (?) on the skillet they do not penetrate the surface. Has not been a problem and,we use it a lot for lots of cooking, particularly frying. Cannot beet iron for frying
Rambler, just give me my gas stove, my cast iron pans, cast iron cornbread pans and cast iron griddles and I'm HAPPY 😊 😃 😀!!!
Amen. A gas cooker is non-negotiable for us.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Malone family.
Like the bit about Lodge. Not only do they make great cast iron they also make malleable iron and carbon steel
Skillets that will complement your cast iron cookware.
For what it's worth, I got this one from a buddy from West-by-God-Virginia about behavior of a chronic and acute drunk husband.
Once he's passed out, wrap him up tightly in a wet sheet and get after him with one of Lodge's finest. If he survives, he'll be cured.
What makes the alloy skillets different?
They're much lighter and heat conductive while the cast iron is a denser material, less heat conductive and retains the heat much longer.
Meaning they drop forge/stamp them?
The whole point is to not give the "establishment" a choice.
You do realize that old school democrats and libertarians are now the ‘Republican’ party? This is the party of the first term of Bill Clinton.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Malone family!!
Great suggestions! I also do homemade gifts like knitted items, various mixes in Mason Jars , or things made with Essential Oils.
It looks like many of us have our fingers crossed🤞with our own countdown until the inauguration!!

Yep. It’s sad, I remember a different America.
Yup wood stove cooking is an art form. Helpful hints: have lots of trivets, do all the prep work ahead of time, have a table near by. I cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner on our wood cook stove. It snowed all day. Happy a thanksgiving to All.
