Dr. Malone, if you have not had a chance to speak with Monica Smits in Melbourne, Australia to get an even closer glimpse at the level of obscene overreach on that continent, she would be an excellent choice for a guest columnist.

In general, what has happened in the commonwealth countries of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand is especially appalling. I lived in Canada for 7 years in the 80s/90s and left because even then I could sense the groupthink / Borg Collective vibe that happily sacrificed the individual to the well-being of the group (of course where “well-being” is always defined by the intellectuals, pundits, and elites). Pierre Trudeau epitomized this and was still despised in the west* when I arrived in Alberta in 1988 - a full 4 years after he was out of office. And, the apple did not fall far from the tree. Whether by nature or nurture, pretty-boy Justin might have become the sad specimen that he is through a trifecta of the people that raised him, the circles they travelled in, and perhaps even DNA on special assignment from Cuba. Yes, there is legitimate speculation that Justin’s father was not Pierre but rather Fidel Castro. Even leftist outlets like Medium acknowledge this. Put some photos side-by-side just for grins.
His mother Margaret was in Cuba at dates to make this a distinct possibility and the Trudeaus were noted for tabloid-type scandalous swinger behavior. Just sayin. But I digress. Back to my original train of thought.

I learned a lot about parliamentary systems of government while I lived there - and why our own founders were so wise to reject them. There aren’t nearly as many checks and balances. The small population and more renegade spirit of western* Canada had to push futilely against the combined population centers of Ontario and Quebec where the elites / progressives congregate and control most everything. There wasn’t enough population in the more conservative Maritime provinces to make a dent. Nor in BC, but they are “left coast” anyway - just like here in the US.
The other thing I observed was that cultural / political alignments tend to fall more along vertical geographic swaths than horizontal. I.e., people from Alberta were more like those from ID and MT. People from Sask were more like those from ND. People from Manitoba more like those from MN. People from Ontario and Quebec more like those from NY. People in the Maritimes more like those from Maine. And people from BC (mostly Vancouver) more like those drawn to Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.
* Everything west of Ontario with notable exception of British Columbia. Just like in the US, Canada’s left coast is progressive — and their population centers in the east are as well.

Exceptional post! Momentous, brilliantly iterated. Crucially useful.
Merci mille fois.
