I hate to miss commenting, I'm still recuperating from the swindle I experienced two days ago. Don't call the Microsoft # if your computer crashes and there is a big series of warnings with a Microsoft #. The rest is history. These people were good. I panicked, never good...

This is the first i've heard of this. Take heart, D D, they're very sophisticated, this could happen to almost anyone without a background in computing. I sincerely hope the damage is not too severe.
Very sorry, that's a small fortune to many. I assume it must have been a debit/ACH transaction? Obviously if not call your credit card company immediately, but i'm sure that's not the issue, I wish it were. =(
I've read stories about PHDs getting taken for far more. My grandmother was taken for 70 grand by a close "friend" and she was as smart as a whip. These flim-flam-man predators will be paying far more than they've gained when the bill come due in the afterlife.
I really appreciate your sentiment, I agree that no-one gets away with anything, wouldn't it be something if that was taught from an early age. This was orchestrated by East Indian guys if their accent is any clue. They know about karma and sometime or other, will get a dose.
6 or 7 years ago I had a problem with my computer. My son was over, and on his suggestion did a quick 'help' search. Got some guy that wanted access to the computer to rid it of the supposed malware. A few minutes into it I turned to my son who was talking with him on my phone and said hang up, I'm turning the pc off. He was just a little too slick and the Indian accents made him hard to understand. Had it just been me in a panic mode . . .. - well who knows, our computers are our window to the world.
I’m sorry also DD. It’s sometimes just a thoughtless click that sets you on the wrong road, I’ve done it also. Recently someone tried to take two 20,000 dollar loans out in my name. I got notified and was able to stop it. I signed up with the credit bureau’s to be notified if anyone tries to open a line of credit in my name. The shitty thing is the people in my case can be found but no one does a thing about it, so this stuff will never end. During the pandemic 3 people were trying to collect unemployment from my business. Names, addresses and SS numbers all right there and the state would do nothing. I found that out from the state sending me a letter saying they were reviewing my unemployment claim. The problem was I wasn’t trying to collect unemployment, unreal!!!!
I’ve had my bouts with Mass. unemployment. People quit, walk off the job, get an under the table job for a year, then collect after 12 months on my unemployment. I told the lady at unemployment to send him back to work with me and she said oh we can’t do that you were his last legitimate employer so he’s collecting on your insurance, driving my costs up…you can’t make this stuff up. There totally against the employer.
Thoughtless click is right! It happened early in the morning. Only one other time my computer was locked and I caught the situation and didn't fall prey. This time I just simply didn't check further because for some reason, I was just a little freaked out. Never again. Thanks, James P.S. I just heard myself say "No shit Sherlock"
That sounds like something that happened to me a couple times a while back. Machine locked up tight on this weird virus repair page. A hard boot straightened it out. I'm just a shade tree computerist, but you might want to remember that.

We all have our weak moments. Honestly sometimes it is tough to discern the bad guys. They keep upping the game. 😬

Thanks Tri, More the feeling of vulnerability and shame of falling for the heist. Just under 5 thousand.

You're in my prayers.

Amen.
Wouldn't it be something if that was taught from an early age
Morality 101, taught form day one to age 101
The world would be transformed.
Amen

Yikes!

Government, mostly incompetent.

Competency is discouraged

Friends of Joe Biteme Bidens, no doubt
Sorry to hear that DD.
So sorry DD! I get so many phone calls everyday from people with accents that I can’t understand. You have to be so careful.
