Well, you are living my dream life. Good song. I have a handicapped son or I might have tried it. And our 35 acres is in Michigan's UP which has too much snow and a too short growing season. Too many bears and coyotes. We had apartments and rental houses when 2008 hit and we had to sell our home we raised our kids in and move to our camp…

Too many bears and coyotes. We had apartments and rental houses when 2008 hit and we had to sell our home we raised our kids in and move to our camp in the UP (where I finished my MFA and was an adjunct professor at Northern MI U.). We were just lucky enough to sell before the shit really hit the fan. So I taught. I'm not saying everyone could do this, so don't take it as criticism. My husband had worked for construction companies/developers and we'd also had our own remodeling business, but there was no work anywhere. We quickly ran up debt of $130K or more. Ruined our retirement as you can relate to. We had partners on our apartments and different ones on our rental houses, so they were at risk--they had more stable jobs. My husband wanted to declare bankruptcy but my dad and I talked him out of it. The only thing he could do (while I taught) that could come close to bailing us out was driving a truck over land and he sacrificed five years of his life to do this but we paid it all off! Not too many people can do what he did. But I always wanted to homestead. Not in the cards at our age now, so I can live vicariously and watch you and your spot. Y ou also have my horses I grew up with and that's amazing. Beautiful spot.
04/02/25: Same here (1984-1989). The things we had to do to survive! Meanwhile, Barry & Biden's WH handed out medals to cheats, thieves, failures and renegades. Good luck!

04/02/25: Bravo! You kept your self-respect (priceless).
Yep. It was a horrible five years or more. But we made it through. Thanks.

Good luck to you, too.
