What a wonderful life you have built and continue to expand. You two are such an inspiration to so many of us. Please continue sharing your lives, I love it.
Well, you are living my dream life. Good song. I have a handicapped son or I might have tried it. And our 35 acres is in Michigan's UP which has too much snow and a too short growing season. Too many bears and coyotes. We had apartments and rental houses when 2008 hit and we had to sell our home we raised our kids in and move to our camp in the UP (where I finished my MFA and was an adjunct professor at Northern MI U.). We were just lucky enough to sell before the shit really hit the fan. So I taught. I'm not saying everyone could do this, so don't take it as criticism. My husband had worked for construction companies/developers and we'd also had our own remodeling business, but there was no work anywhere. We quickly ran up debt of $130K or more. Ruined our retirement as you can relate to. We had partners on our apartments and different ones on our rental houses, so they were at risk--they had more stable jobs. My husband wanted to declare bankruptcy but my dad and I talked him out of it. The only thing he could do (while I taught) that could come close to bailing us out was driving a truck over land and he sacrificed five years of his life to do this but we paid it all off! Not too many people can do what he did. But I always wanted to homestead. Not in the cards at our age now, so I can live vicariously and watch you and your spot. Y ou also have my horses I grew up with and that's amazing. Beautiful spot.
04/02/25: Same here (1984-1989). The things we had to do to survive! Meanwhile, Barry & Biden's WH handed out medals to cheats, thieves, failures and renegades. Good luck!
Beautiful photos and an inspiring story of love and dedication. Thank-you for sharing your story. God bless you both and a wish for many more blessed years. K in Oregon
The level of work undertaken here is hugely impressive. My fledgling efforts are small by comparison, but still rewarding. I work alone in the garden, unless I count the two lizards that sometimes startle me by zipping through leaves or items on the porch. I've dubbed them Ick and Yuck.
I recently spotted Yuck with a mouthful of beetle. The size of the beetle relative to Yuck, in terms of scale, was akin to me swallowing a whole turkey without chewing. Impressed, I said, "Yuck, we may have had our differences in the past, but it's undeniable that you're doing some good pest control work here, so you and Ick are welcome to stay. Yard only, though, Ok? If you come in the house, I'll make a belt out of you."
Yuck regarded me pensively, bobbed his head up and down a couple of times, which I took to be assent. So you see, I don't have to be compelled by One Health to live in harmony with surrounding creatures. I'm establishing eco-friendly, cooperative relationships on a local, decentralized, voluntary basis.
I resonate to talking to animals of all sizes and shapes, James. There is intelligence in the nature world, including some of the Devas and Fairies that have been relegated to fantasy. I have seen a few and I know they know me. It is part of respecting the Earth and all her glory.
I can totally relate, I live in Kihei, Maui....hot and dry and thousands of lizards, some geckos but mostly lizards. I cannot walk in my yard without having to stop and give the right a way to a lizard. There are too many to name, but I stop and chat with them as our paths crossed.
You two get what MAHA is supposed to mean more than most anybody, and that is why my wife and I support and promote everything you’re doing!! We are on the same path to find and create our own regenerative homestead to help heal, the land, ourselves and our communities and world simultaneously! It’s the only solution that accomplishes all of those goals at the same time in the most optimal fashion, as you clearly understand! 👏🏼🫶🏼 you’re a wonderful inspiration for my wife and I! Hope you received and are enjoying the products we sent to you at the end of last week! 🫶🏼 keep thriving and shining you crazy diamonds! 🙌🏼✨💠✨💎✨
Oh and by the way, look into the history of, and endless uses for hemp!!! It is a phytoremediator that will help regenerate your soils by drawing out anything harmful in the soil while sequestering 4 times the CO2 of average plants and trees due to its prolific growth rate. It is the plant our country was founded on that we could pay our taxes in at the start of the colonies, and it was even illegal not to grow it in the Virginia and West Virginia territories at the start of the colonies as well! You will absolutely love the history dive on that subject, and realize how fundamental hemp is to the regenerative movement if you haven’t already! 🤗
Also, you’ll get a kick out of the “Hemp for Victory” campaign during WW2 to get farmers to grow it again since we cut off our Asian suppliers during the war, just after the monopoly men of the time came together in 1937 to ensure prohibition switched from alcohol to hemp with the marihuana tax act to make it unprofitable, and the reefer madness campaign to target the smokeable cousin of hemp that they propagandized with a made up term of marijuana. With that movie they made it public enemy numero uno, so they could hide the real goal of eliminating hemp from our system since it can be used for thousands of industrial uses that competed with big business. And bonus, it paved the way for the prohibition of all the mind expanding, plant based medicines that would risk people finding out how our system truly works and then peacefully deciding to drop out of that system and live the lifestyle you two currently are! 🫶🏼😊
Absolutely! Glad to hear the word is spreading! 🤗 Once you look into, it just makes sense on too many levels to ignore! It is THE primary crop that would reverse the damage done by industrial agriculture and accomplish the alleged goals of the “climate change” narrative. The founding fathers understood it, hence why they all grew it and I think George Washington even said something like, “Our freedoms and ability to grow hemp are synonymous. We cannot have one without the other.” That is how useful it is… And the prohibition started right after Time magazine declared it the next billion dollar crop since the decorticator was just invented to do to hemp what the cotton gin did to cotton and make it able to be processed on an industrial scale. 🤯
"This is the story of two people, an older couple with a longstanding marriage and commitment to each other, who made it happen with persistent effort, creativity, and years of hard work. It is a story of resiliency, of solving a thousand small problems, and of finding ways to work around obstacles."
This is the "money quote." The Dr. Malones had already proven their compatibility and ability to solve the myriad problems / challenges that arise in *every* marriage. My being a septuagenarian married to another one for almost 53 years, I can attest to this firsthand. As a couple you both could probably succeed in *any* endeavor in which you were both interested and committed. But besides being a success story, this is simply a damn good read and should be recommended reading for all couples entertaining to jointly venture into a similar avocation. Robert & Jill, kudos to the both of you.
As you clearly reveal this is not for everyone. Needed: knowledge, other sources of income, perseverance, backgrounds with relevant skills. Not to in anyway diminish the dedications you and Jill have. But you had some necessary skills in your favor.
I think there are plenty of people who would like to be free from the slave life and as the techno brats prepare to rip the last rug out from under most of us, wouldn't it be a great time to form communities to see if this is doable . All generations are needed - some of us may be willing but are no longer young and realistically cannot do this alone. We don't want to be warehoused in nightmarish facilities run now by private equity.
The absurd rules and regs and battles with nonsensical controls of local entities you highlighted are just one of the many challenges.
Have you and Jill ever thought of starting a video series on your entire journey? You have a wealth of knowledge and for those who do not believe that tech is going to save us (in fact it will enslave us), your story is compelling. It's harder for the predators to grab your land than it is to suddenly change the rules on the next crypto scam....
Such a wonderful, beautiful farm! With so much love, dedication, & hard work, the past years have obviously been very rewarding! I’m so happy you both have fulfilled your dreams, & I appreciate all your photos, & garden tips- that keeps me inspired to continue my quest to gardening! Thank you both for the amazing photos & videos!
Dr.Malone you and your wife are the real deal.I had a ranch in California and raised cattle and grew Almonds. In 2020 the start of Covid I sold everything and moved to Idaho!Lifes Great

A great inspiration to us all! I stand in awe! ❣️❣️
04/02/25: Superb. Survival of the fittest. Congratulations! Glad to be a subscriber to help make even a tiny part of all this possible.
Keep on Rolling those dice Robert.....The well lived life is alive and well within.
Life is always about risks and rewards.
I ring my gratitude bell each waking morning!

My friend Dannion Brinkley and Mel Minitor often post support for hemp. Uses, upon uses for better alternatives to so much plastic and crap!

The steaks were high.
Have fun lovely sane people, so nice to come here sometimes.
Ho lee chit, and inspiring, I just thought up an easter joke.
Did you hear about the new Easter Bunny Mouth Wash?
Its like a breath of fresh hare.
Thanks, guys, I will be telling this one to the patients in post op tomorrow.
Like a Phoenix from the ashes, your farm and critters rose.
Thank you for sharing the amazing photo-s.
We love every single posture and pose.
Could we do it? I don’t suppose!

Doc, this is my dream. God Bless. The small farm is a lot of work but very rewarding. I can’t wait to get back to the way it was growing up.
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free
’tis the gift to come down where you ought to be
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed
To turn, turn will be our delight
‘Till by turning, turning we come round right.
