I've always appreciated the sanity of your viewpoints, Robert, and the humanity of your medical positions—but when you write about being a man (and a woman!) of the earth ... all the previous impressions that shine through your work, make complete sense and make you all the more credible. I was raised on a 350 acre horse and cattle farm outside Middleburg, VA. (Fauquier County) I've renovated (by hand and alone except for two dogs, a cat and a Lippizaner stallion named Golly Gee) an off-grid cabin and 100 acre farm in North Georgia, then moved to Washington State and started over, buying 21 ares of raw land and doing the "up from scratch" thing. (With a partner this time thank God!) WHEW! I don't want to split hairs about what constitutes "reality." But living on and working the land for 80% of my life has grounded and supported all the other stuff—the research, the writing, the talking, the traveling ... the CARING—life itself feeding the desire to stand up for life, keeping it all in perspective. Bless you and thank you for all that you and Jill are and do!!!
OH MY GOSH!! How amazing! You two did an amazing job and I now feel encouraged and not quite so afraid to continue with our plans! Thank you for sharing - Can't wait for part II :-)
This is awesome! But it is very discouraging how local authorities control so much of what goes on regarding private property. Yes, it is necessary for building codes so people don't get injured, but sometimes it goes too far.
The word 'pioneer' comes to mind. This confirms my opinion that AI is not as smart as it is touted to be. Humans can survive all sorts of challenges. All you have to do to stop AI is...pull the plug. :-)
After I got home from groc. shopping and saw a new post and pics, I got on my bed, snuggled in, just like I would do to read a good book. I was not disappointed and am in awe of the tremendous fortitude you both have, as well as strength, know-how and everything else it takes to make a vision come true! Huzzah!
After 2 if the most stressful days at work that I’ve ever had, in the DC Swamp, this latest article transported me to a peaceful place. Can’t wait for part two!
Amazing recounting if that huge undertaking! We just sold our home, an HOA situation we are now free of, and are looking to set ourselves up as Homesteaders. This was terrific insight to the challenges! Can’t wait for part 2!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing this story.
The living manifestation of the true American spirit. Nothing but hard work can build the future and character at the same time.

It reads like a story book tale 200 yrs ago, as does yours.
The spirit of challenging the New Frontiers, while immersed in it, "Never"dies in America.
We make history come alive over and over again.
It is great when one reads a story of a husband and wife working as a loving team with one goal in mind.

What an encouraging story of fortitude.!!
An agricultural office, where naps are not outlawed!
I love your farm stories, and this one is captivating. Can't wait for the next installment.

I was lucky with my house build, had a building inspector who was flexible and did not stand on the "letter" of the rules.
You and others who think like you are heros in America. Fighting the corrupt government is not easy.
My wife and I are in Iowa. On 80 acres. We cleared and worked. Built a house. and now we can sit on the porch and love it. I hope the same for you.
Most definitely - more to come!
Love this
