I love hearing about and seeing pictures of your farm! My dad was raised in a farm-there was nothing that he couldn’t do!
I appreciate hearing about all the Covid stuff too. I never miss your column. Btw, I subscribe to Epoch News too so I will keep an eye out for the new video.
Thank you for the encouragement to rise above the noise and confusion and appreciate God's amazing and beautiful creation and the value of working hard and living with simplicity and kindness.
Emu hatching! Can’t wait for March to see those little ones! You two are a good team. Most people divorce over a wallpaper project. You two have such a passion for all things farm and animals. Keep these stories coming (and the others related to our government, COVID, Wellness Company, etc).
I always enjoy your “farm” postings!! Wow! You and Jill have certainly been busy! The photos are delightful and especially love the ones of you and Jill. You two are beautiful together. Enjoy every moment with each other. Time goes by too quickly.
Good plan!!! Now if we could just empty the Gulags and drain the swamp, we could slowly get back to the America we know and love. The land of the free and home of the brave.
Speaking of Gulags - where are the House Republicans in exposing the Jan 12 prisoners and a real investigation of where the the docs have gone - I hear today that some have been released. This is prolonged agony for these patriots.
John Prine's song was kind of an anthem for me and my lady when in the deep distant time of our youth we moved to the country and lived there ever since until 2020 when we knew it was time to radically downscale cause the big place was too much to handle anymore. Still semi-rural on 2+3/4 acres. Wish I still had the big place though. We always thought of it as living the handmade life. Large gardens, chickens, art fairs for my wife's weaving, my jewelry, ornamental ironwork, graphic arts and illustration. I built, rebuilt and remodeled all of the buildings myself.
OMG these works are spectacular and expertly crafted! I saw some hand forged knives and weapons at the Renaissance fair years ago. The person only showed for one year, as far as I know. Probably too unique for that venue. Thanks for sharing Big E!
It is amazing! He is very talented. Does he do requests? I'd like an easy-read outdoor thermometer embedded in something heavy, perhaps an owl, rabbit or other silhouette that could be secured on a deck post.
Dylan who? Link to the work? I started learning in 1979, took several courses wit Bill Fiorini at UW La Crosse. I made some gates and railings and sign posts and brackets, But liked making furniture and pattern welded knives (erroneously called Damascus which was a different process) the most.
Bob Dylan, go to his website, there are lots of pics of his iron work as well as his paintings. It is reported that while on tour he would always be stopping and grabbing iron pieces.
I hope you and Jill are enjoying your time together. In order to give so much to others, you have to take care of yourself, and not get worn out by giving too much. i hope your winter weather is kind to you both, and the farm you tend will, nurture your strength for the battles ahead in the coming year. There are going to be some.
Aloha, having just returned from a Hawaiian island cruise. I admire your keeping your toes in the dirt. I'm convinced living exclusively in politics, media and computer screens is a prescription for premature death. A toast to you both.
You two are an inspiration in so many ways. Thank you for all the stories and pics and for sharing your life on the farm. Next best thing to being there as I plan my great escape back to the country.
You are what my southern roots would call a “real” man. My dad was very educated but he could farm, build, and fix anything around the house. We never called a plumber etc.
Wow !... I am glad you and Jill have been relatively free to do all these things..... I live in Oregon... (Similar environment).... I’m now ACTIVATED towards a green house !!!!!!.......For Blackberries/ Huckleberries !!!!!................How much does CO2 cost ??!!!!
Dr. Malone, we already did what you prescribed: blow up the TV (got rid of it over 45 years ago) and last year reaped a bountiful harvest from our peach trees. .

Linda B
yep, some dads are awesome
Dr. Malone, I'm beginning to wonder if the only time you ever sleep is on the plane ride home.
Indeed. I would be blessed to have his (their) energy.
coffee, black, lots of it, and it helps keep adult onset DB away

When I saw ornamental ironwork, I thought of Dylan who has made some of the coolest iron fences and artwork ever!
You might appreciate the handiwork here: https://larrygotkin.com/
OK, OK, this is my younger brother’s work, but don’t let the sisterly recommendation deter you from looking 👀. His work is amazing, nepotism aside.

Good for him. I wish I had known that when I was still doing iron work.
it is amazing what some can do with a welding arc, my dad tried to teach me, but that spark was a task I could not do,
So many good stress relievers in those pictures. Thanks for sharing.
AMEN!

if not premature death, then certainly premature hell
connecting bare feet to dirt is good "grounding"

Wonderful to have a slice of tranquility in your busy life!
Your farmyard raised chicken eggs contain more vitamin D that those
raised in tin barns under crowded conditions! Unfortunately, too
many US citizens can't find tranquility in their lives under
the conditions we are currently dealing with.

Bravo Barbara! Unconditioned couple living a life of reality. We need more of you.
Yaa, breaking ice on the water tanks is the worst. It gets colder at weedom, and heaters only do so much.
That's an impressive renovation job you're doing on 'Serenity'!!
