Trump didn’t place his hand on the bibles. Maybe I am wrong, but I find this significant. I will be praying for him to allow God to lead him… he needs it. He has surrounded himself with titans… not moralists. ‘Progress' isn’t always good for the people.

The Supreme Court justice didn’t allow time for Melania or the first family to get into place before he started. Thus the Bible was not in place when the Justice started.

Was the Justice nervous or was it on purpose. We may never know.

I noticed the same. They allowed Vance to bring his family in, but Trump? Nope! Rush job! The look on some of the Trump families faces said it all! Wait! What? So I’m chalking it up to the rush job. My liberal “friends” are having a heyday with it. “Oh he would probably burst into flames if he put his hand on the Bible”. I find it difficult to keep these people as so-called friends. They are negative, divisive, and just nasty! I’m ready to move on. Life is too short.

On another note. Please say a prayer for those of us in So California. The wind is insane again. Feels worse than the last time around. 🙏🏼

My son is in Yorba Linda, about 40 miles NE of L.A. I've been trying to keep in touch with him. I guess it's time to text him again. So far, he is doing fine, but with the wind, It could be another story.

Didn’t Roberts have to re-administer the 'Oath of Office' for getting a few words wrong once? Is having your hand on the bible essential for the oath to be affirmed? **NOTE: It is not required, as we have no litmus test for faith. That being said, it is tradition to do so. I find it odd that a man who says ‘God saved me.’ forgets that his oath is made before God.

LDT, I'm less concerned about tradition than about what is written on his heart.

Agree, Gloria. What's written on one's heart is definitely not a business matter. Similar to prayer - a private, personal matter for whom, and how, one prays.

No, she didn't step up too late. Roberts started too quickly. He could see the family wasn't all there. Kavanaugh didn't have an issue and he waited to adjust 3 little children. It was Roberts.

maybe you are right. I think perhaps he just made a mistake, and focused on the words he was saying. I hope he mentions / explains this, but I don't think it was on purpose. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I believe he will lead a Godly administration, as much as humanly possible, certainly more than the last administration with unfettered abortion, Gender surgeries encouraged for children, etc

It’s frankly easy to say no to ‘gender surgeries’… but how about the rest of the alphabet? He kicked abortions back to the states… you can then wash your hands of the ‘problem’.

Neither Justice asked Trump or Vance to place their hands on bibled. They didn't even ask Melania to come up with the bibles she was holding.

It is, I believe, the symbolic way of saying, 'Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit’. I am not Catholic, but rather *catholic*.

Yes, that is what the sign of the cross says: In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

I was brought up Roman Catholic, now "Lutheran" in . . . name.

It means:

"In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy ghost." meant to be said to complement a priest making the sign of the cross, usually. Each touch of the hand represents Christs wound locations on the cross. Forehead(thorns), chest(heart, spear), Left and Right sides for hands pierced by nails. anyway, that is what I recall. . . ?!@

Gloria Hensley's avatar

It's not meant to complement anyone. It's a short powerful blessing.

complement as in reflecting similar meaning, makes another thing complete, perfects. . . not compliment as to give approbation.

Uses a E in the middle syllable vs an eye.

Gloria, that just shows how courageous YOU are compared to most. Even I do not do so in "public"-- only in church-- the Lutheran one!. . . and virtually no one else does. Still, that does not take near the courage as your practice. Inspiring.

I read last night, Vance is Roman Catholic, Joined the church as an adult, (like me in 2004) was Baptised and given first communion and confirmed in 2019. I read last night, his wife Usa (sp?) remained Hindu. IMHO and limited knowledge, but some, of Hindu, there are similarities with Catholic Christian way of life.

I'm not worried in the least. It would have been good, but the important part is saying, "so help me God" which he did, because those are words in the Oath. Melania was holding Trump's family bible. So, it was just overlooked, as Trump thinks very highly of his family's Bible. So, much ado about nothing.

That's because a our not so smart Supreme Court Justice, Roberts, didn't tell him. Roberts began before Melania and the rest of the family got there. I don't know if Roberts did that on purpose or not, but he also screwed up when Trump took his oath in 1917. Justice Kavanaugh did it correctly for J.D. Vance and waited for his entire family to gather around him (and there were 3 little children). There is something just not right with Justice Roberts. Maybe he's visited the "Island" too often? He doesn't like Trump much, but that's no excuse for his actions. He also voted 'no' on the last thing Trump's attorneys brought before the justices. Hmmmm. You might want to pray for him too.

Diana Backus's avatar

That was mentioned by an announcer today and it was just a momentary glitch between Klobachar ending her intro, and Melania being able to position the Bibles for his hand. Roberts was coming from the opposite direction and was very speedy with issuing the oath. There were a couple seconds that lapsed before his hand was placed on the Bibles. The camera angle made it difficult to see.
