I am glad to see America turning its attention toward health. It is long overdue. But as a life-long vegetarian, I would love to see an emphasis on a humanitarian approach to meat production. If you want to eat a dead animal, have at it, but please, please, don't treat it cruelly while it is alive.

The hardest for me are the pigs which I understand have an IQ similar to dogs and yet are treated so brutally. And how many trillions of chickens are consumed each year! The whole spectrum seems appalling to me, but I admit my bias.
Meat used to be a "specialty" not a staple. Encouraging people back to that would not be a bad thing, would it?
What MacDonald's has wrought! When MacDonalds was new, I was inclined to give it a try. Once only. Their approach to food did not appeal to me then or now. But the imitators have really pushed the menu and the way of preparation. Amazingly In 'n Out is not sexually suggestive. The public has been trained to eat "fast food" and ignore ingredients. If you are promoting healthy food, you have to move the public's awareness to more than just convenience.

What goes around....Meat was once a luxury item and darned if it is not becoming one today, particularly beef

I agree Carol, and yet Bison had their place for survival; food, clothing and shelter. And always giving thanks for the Creators abundance.
