Very cool essay. Thanks for the education about the owning and caring of horses. I had fun opportunities to ride as a child on a few special elderly gentle trail riders. We had good friends who had a dozen trail horses that owned a lake resort that rented summer cabins for vacationers. The horses were a part of the allured attraction. The owner needed extra help to move the horses to a better winter stable and barn when the vacation season was over. So I was placed on horseback when I was 8 yrs old and had at least two saddle up rides per year moving his herd back and forth from summer/winter rearing and remember it well. They are huge fuzzy soft shiny expensive pets.
I can give kudos to the Everette Johnson family @ Sunnyside Resort on Ripple Lake in Minn. Yup.
Total respect for mans evolution to have such desires to domesticate such a powerful animal.
Re-edited in addendum.
Long before the wheel if you had ownership of a plow or riding horse, you indeed had power and prestige over your dominion. (Joking about them as pets)
