The problem is you don't have a free market in healthcare because you have government and insurer coercion messing it all up. If Pharma, doctors, and hospitals had to compete for our business, we'd have a whole industry devoted to ways of evaluating them, like Consumer Reports, JD Power, etc. for buying cars. People would figure out how to make decent choices, just like they do now for everything else. Buyer beware as always.

There is no "free market" anywhere :P... This is as real as the Tooth Fairy...

If the market would be "free" what would be the need for the legalized bribe called 'lobbying"?

No one has yet come up with a better system than capitalism --- the freer, the better. It's what's pulled the majority of the world out of abject poverty over the last couple of hundred years. Of course corporations are in it for profit and would destroy us all if left unchecked. Chevy doesn't strive to make their cars better for the benefit of humanity. They do it because Ford will put them out of business if they don't. Yeah, lobbying kind of sucks. So do campaign finance laws. The Founders were geniuses, but they themselves admitted the Constitution was only the best they could do in the time they had available. You can't give people free stuff and expect ;them to be productive.

It is just that this is not even "capitalism" anymore; it is financial capitalism, where they don't make money out of money - quite the opposite :P.

As I like to say, both capitalism and communism could work... but they fail, for the same reason:

Flawed Human Nature.
