I think you appropriately placed that Fox meme right up there with the teachers. We now see what happens when a group that should be bound by community standards unionized and co opts government to become a national force. These teachers, as a group, are no longer bound by any standards but those from a centralized nexus. Teachers, as a whole, have become —God help us— bureaucrats.

And then there are those like myself who understand our roles and respect the boundaries of our tax-paying families. There are more of us out here than you might think, protecting students.

MLew, I totally understand what you’re saying. I owe so much to the many great teachers my children experienced. But if they were funding these national groups, they were, perhaps unknowingly, harming us all.

Oh, I don't pay a dime to their union. I have been sued by them over my refusal. Just one more reason I loathe them and what they stand for. I've been at it for over 25 years, and I am not going away until I'm ready. They are well aware of that, believe me. What makes me truly sad is how many of my colleagues don't agree with them yet won't stand up for themselves. I'll be damned if I ever willingly pay those evil pieces of sh*t a dime.

So, yes, you are correct on that point. However, over the years, I have done my part to dissuade new teachers from joining, just as a veteran teacher once did for me. It is not uncommon for new teachers to falsely believe that they are required to join. Of course, the union does nothing to clarify that for them, so it's good that there are people like myself to do that! :D
