There’s a lot of reward in receiving lobbyist money and there’s not much profit in putting health before profiteering. It’s a fundamental lack of civic morality, not just in our current era, but throughout the entire course of human history. What needs to be done to deter this flaw is to stop rewarding amoral behavior and start punishing it. It’s a big ask, but if there’s a mass movement then it’s doable.
