Thickened skin is developed through adversity, struggle, pain, negative interactions, and conflict. If we are sheltered from this in any way (barring physical harm threats) then there isnt any reason to subject one's self beyond required conversations for basic necessities.

I sincerely hope he can, otherwise my initial first impression that our dear Doc Malone, was a HUGE Steve Martin "wild and crazy guy" pioneer impressionist, back in his early days, in college, will be dashed forever.
