It was true then and true today that doctors do not study nutrition as part of their education. they felt free to allocate that to dietitians and nurses, if it occurred to them. Occasionally, they might have written orders for dietary consult. Retired 20 years ago and in my experience as a patient, I can’t remember any doctor asking about my diet. But they are always ready to prescribe something as a test or a new medication.
