"There are no atheists in fox holes" got my attention! I have felt like I was in mortal combat, just a different kind. Better be paying attention when your life and safety is at risk. There's nothing like a dose of street smarts. Thanks for the pause, Randy.
Those eons of the myriad of war torn soldiers used to have a saying.
There are no atheists in fox holes.
Never been in mortal combat in my life.
Had wondered if 2024 was all of our turn.
Perhaps we indeed did dodge a bullet.
One guy did live on TV for sure.

My Mom said it with some regularity DD.
Easy for me to relate.
I am the only male in our family that never served in the military.
Even my step father had 25 in the Marine corp.
I took my chances on the lottery drafting system.
My number was always higher, so I just didn't sign on.
My 3 older bros all served 4 year hitches in the navy.
I never got razzed by them for "Not" serving active duty on ships.
My youngest son John did a 4 year hitch on CVN75 HS Truman a few yrs ago
He just completed a yellow ribbon 4 yr college hitch paid for by benefits.
He claims it's the best thing he's ever done so far in life. Nice Huh?
That you never got 'razzed' by them says something about acceptance without judgement. There are many ways to be... some subtle, some not so much.
They all were thousands of miles from "home and family".
Placed in unfamiliar dangerous activities.
But quickly learned how to set a lot a beneficial expectations in themselves.
And learn to cope with others "all in the same boat". Hahaha
