New life always inspires hope in the darkest of times. ❤️

Why is it that the medicine man believes he can improve on life itself?

Why is it that the medicine man doesn't recognize the root causes of ill health that need to be stopped to improve on the quality of life? Manipulating the genetic make up of all living things can not end well.

There must be a great feeling of satisfaction watching all of your exhausting hard work turn into a beautiful new life. For me it’s seeing a couple, Jill and yourself, that work so hard, leave all of the people that have tried to destroy you back in the dust bin of history in your lives. Screw them!!! I love your success in-spite of the evil cancelling society. It seems to me Homesteading goes far beyond producing your own food!!!

I agree with every word here James, what a great relief to read Dr Malones (and yours) comments instead of the bullshit we are all subjected to more and more daily. It seems to be inescapable. A great shame indeed.

I hope you don't mind me riding along with the adventures of your life! The most unexpected news around here is pretty tame compared to the news of new births, highfalutin parties (no offense meant) and the expertise needed to breed horses. Since I don't have a barn (Stalls, I knew that) to muck, I think I will change the litter boxes. Many more pictures to come I hope, as the foals come to manifest and delight. Once again, I love that you include us in your varied activities. Dare I end with the old phrase, PEACE

What great pictures! So excited for you two. She does look perfect. One down and five to go.

Rumor has it that it is the foal that decides its birth date. I wonder about that because one of my mares gave me three foals all came in her tenth month. Another mare produced three foals all born nipping at twelve months.

Great name and coming up with five more starting with U may take some doing. Unity, Unique or Unicity, Ultra, Ultimate, Urbane . . .

Yes, I have been taught that too -

But in practice, it doesn't hold up.

Tantra - with her broken pelvis, always gives birth early.

Mares and other ungulates cluster their births - documented.

Heat stress will induce labor, just as in people.

Mares that are separated from their herd, will hold off delivering.

So, although I have heard the rationale for this theory - in my book of practical knowledge, no.

Oh, I love all the U names - keep them coming! Five more mares to go!

I remember last year you were lookng for gemstone names. These are the 3 "u" gems

Unakite - promotes emotional and spiritual equilibrium

Ulexite - boosts intuition and psychic powers as well as wards off negative energies

Uvite - a rare type of tourmaline that is said to diminish fears, promote self-confidence, awaken one from illusions, bring an awareness of reality, and enhance fortitude

You brought back long ago memories with that picture. I was manager of the pasteurization plant at a farm in NY. We had no bulls and brought in a vet to do the honors. I was only 17 at the time and was very happy that an outsider put on that long sleeve rather than me or one of my coworkers!

Our off the track rescue mare from that God-awful auction in TX came in at 11pm, hours late, FELL off the trailer, bag of bones but as pregnant as she could be! She had been cared for at some point bc she had a shaved bridle path and her feet weren’t beyond repair plus she had traces of having had a caslic stitch (pregnant mare vocab!) so her owners HAD cared at a point.

She was breathing so laboriously hard, I thought she was in labor — in a trailer from TX to GA! We spoiled her rotten, slowly feeding her the BEST stuff ever—watching her breathe heavily, thinking her foal would pop at any moment. She had NO body fat, NO hair/coat, dull eyes, triangle butt, every rib, every BONE easily visible, no life in her eyes but that foal was doing backflips! Well, 3 weeks later, still no foal! Turns out, she had a bad case of pneumonia, hence the labored breathing. We had a TV type baby monitor but one night, my daughter felt terrible and slept right through her alarm without doing her 1am foal watch . She wasn’t too concerned when she woke up bc there had been a terrible storm all night. Surely Mama would wait THAT out.

Nope! Turns out lots of horses give birth during bad storms supposedly bc predators aren’t as active those nights? And our rail thin little mama didn’t stay in the 2.5 -sized CLEAN, freshly bedded stall, either! She gave birth under our big magnolia! Three years later, BOTH are fine and couldn’t be happier! Such a fun thing to have a goal fall asleep on your lap to your gentle scratches and soft singing. To this day, if I scratch behind his ears and tell him Gwamma-gwams loves him so

much, he closes his eyes and relaxes his entire body.

Not such nice news here. We have been treating our white tail deer population with corn and/or deer pellets for about 16 yrs now. This a.m. was a heartbreaker. A herd of over a doz showed up and was largely composed of bucks, really big ones including some 8 pointers. We have never seen such a collection of bucks on our property before. The poor dears are having their habitat developed right out from under them and they are almost out of room. The buzzards are living well off the road kill as a consequence. I think I may actually hate land developing scum more than dirty politicians because it is theirs (and others) dirty money that soils the pols. And then you have interfering gov hacks adding to the mix.

Agenda 21/30 will put a stop to that.

The deer population in parts of Missouri has enlarged to the point it is over-running and devastating numerous farming areas. The Governor has allowed an uptick in tags this year.

I find deer on my property all the time. My new neighbor has a feeder out for the winter months. My son puts out deer blocks annually as no crops or animals are raised on the 100 acre estate his manages/lives on.

Today the herds are mainly being culled with F100s and Ram pick-ups

Mainly nocturnal is a unique aspect. As small herds feed together at night.

The level of adaptability is second to none. ( well maybe the canada goose)

I have been amazed to see such large wild 4 legged growth in my back yard in the city,

Expand nearly every year. And yes we allow city late Nov bow hunts in town.

Permits required. The Asian population are by in large hunter gatherers in our town.

They will take a portion of road kills home for the freezer. Local laws allow this activity.

Put out some corn for my clients deer this morning. Their suburban property is close to a reserved area used for cull hunting in season. Their big Bucky has survived for another year. In the late winter the meal guests were antlered males. In the early summer its the does, 2 fawns and Bucky. The clients would catch h l if the County learns they are feeding.

Last time I drove Jacksonville, Fl to Cape Coral I was disgusted with the amount of development; if there was a tree standing it was being taken down mostly for the development $$$ towns will receive in revenue.

It is going on here like a house on fire while we are under stage 4 water use restrictions. They are also installing septic systems on 1/4 acre lots. Were told in the 90s by a county judge new public health concerns were restricting new installments to 1 acre or larger tho existing systems grandfathered. The law NOW reads that grandfathered land is exempted which totally nullifies the supposed v public health protection originally behind the restrictions.

Expand full comment

I’ve been on septic systems for decades and if put in correctly, there is no safety hazards associated. We use a solids tank, pump tanks and above ground sand mounds. Solids tank is pumped out by truck on x years depending on household size.

Agree with you about the greedy land developers! The beautiful cow field next to our property becomes a huge subdivision. Fortunately we have 6 1/2 acres of a buffer zone surrounded by trees and a wonderful forked stream at the bottom. So we get lots of deer daily. I got a salt block and a treat for them of a berry/corn block. We live close to Dr. Malone , but he def has most of us beat in the homesteading department! lol

Pia is perfect. She is adorable! There is nothing like a newborn baby whether human or animal.

I was 46 when I had my last baby. A perfect blonde hair , blue eyed beauty. I was pregnant the same time as my daughter in law. We were due 2 weeks apart. Well my baby was breach and I had to have a C section the week before my due date. Well my son and daughter in law couldn’t wait for their bundle of joy to come. She took castor oil . Make her so sick but the baby came 5 days after my baby. Yes pregnant women get excited for their babies to come. I realize your mares aren’t going to take castor oil but I’m sure they are anxiously waiting for there turn.

My baby girl got married a year ago on Monday. Guess what she is pregnant. We are so excited. Her husband couldn’t get off of work to go to her first appointment so she wanted her dad and I to go. She was kind of scared. Well the Dr did an ultrasound on her. There was the tiny little baby. 9 weeks along. The Dr said the baby was as big as a gummy bear. Then we got to listen to the heart beat. How excited we were to hear such a tiny little heart beating. Ahhh the miracle of life.

I’m excited to see the other babies coming soon. I just love baby anything except maybe baby rattle snakes🤪. Have a great day!!
