I would say that an element of greed runs through every human heart. But too many people have lost the ability to call upon humanity's timeless moral and ethical principles to keep it in check. I think appeals to greed will always present. What we've lost is a culture-wide moral compass. In other words, far too many people have lost their basic humanity.
