I’m afraid, when it comes to subsidiarity, modernity - along with its stupefying complexity - has presented what may be an insurmountable obstacle: scarcity of attention. If one endeavors to attend to merely those items which are somewhat essential to the conduct of most anyone’s life nowadays, it is a prescription for study in some form (reading, videos, etc.) - all one’s waking hours. Basic understanding of only the forces at work on each of us, may just be unattainable. As a retired physician and lawyer, I find it impossible to understand the workings of the medical system, for example.

BTW, as a student in what seems like another epoch, I was shocked, even back then, at the authoritarianism I encountered at an unnamed school of public health. The refereed journals in the field constitute a ‘how-to’ manual for implementation of the broadest, deepest, most personal tyranny.
