Well, and some areas are gnat catcher habitat. Environmentalism run amok. Funny how these same e-ists don’t squawk about the e effects of these fires.
Yes, Fred. We could not deforrest due to an owl. So when the wildfires burned the forrest, no mention of the owls. Did they fly away, or did they burn? They likely would have welcomed their habitat being deforrested. Since I am not an owl I cannot possibly know, but they survived for many years with deforresting. The environmental nut jobs are likely funded by USAID.
Thank you! I remember, but the youngsters need to be reminded of every stupid thing the govt has screwed up. There’s a big (evil)story or two on Lake Powell too. I just don’t know details. Decades of glorious clear water; now overwhelming levels of mussels, and a very expensive and totally useless “mitigation” program. No one knows if the infestation was accidental. Wouldn’t be the first time an agent was introduced to combat a perceived threat, only to have that backfire. The striped bass is likely another story. They used to be fun to fish; fight right up to and including the release. A decade or so ago, as soon as you hook one, they die. Theory is that the striped bass (that were eating all the native fish and overpopulating the lake) were crossed with another fish species that dies from stress. What possibly could go wrong? Would I eat one now? Not on your life.
There are ways to have both, if rationality plays into it. My sister living just NE of Fresno is aware of Native Americans being utilized to judiciously manage forest overgrowth with traditional methods both saving wildlife and thinning to prevent huge damage to both nature and people. God gave us the ability to reason, did some people just loose that ability?

Another personal favorite is cutting off water to the farmers in our central valleys to save the smelt! Trump refers to this often. 🤬

I agree. I grew up in Indiana and ate fresh water fish frequently. I love it. Now in AZ I am not sure what is good from the lakes.
Do not make sushi with them....they are loaded with parasites.
