Idaho has a closed primary for now, but an evil initiative on the November ballot is attempting to create both open primaries and ranked choice voting (see short link https://tinyurl.com/4m8rbbun). I hope people don’t fall for this scam, but voters are not well-informed no matter how hard we work to share good information.
The Idaho Republican Central Committee passed a rule a while back stating that if you changed party affiliation after Dec 31 of the year before a primary, you could not vote in the Republican primary. But, this is very difficult and expensive to enforce and I suspect that happened in this election. So much money was thrown at it. We also have an unfortunate law that allows unaffiliated voters (often Democrats) or just-moved to the state voters to register on Election Day for any party.

I just read a piece the other day in American Spectator all about closed primaries and the pitfalls when they are open, diluting the vote. Groups with cohesive values and goals should be allowed to vote without outsiders diluting their chances to elect chosen people. That is what the party system is all about.
